Apple iPhone SE 2 to Launch in 2020 – Budget iPhone with 11 Power
If you’re not quite able to afford an iPhone 11 this year, then fear not, you can still get your hands on one of Apple’s latest phones in the form of the SE 2.
Everyone seems to want to get their hands on an iPhone right now – especially with the successful release of the iPhone 11 and iOS 13 drawing a lot of attention to the world’s first trillion dollar company. That being said, not everyone is willing to shell out hundreds of dollars for the latest iPhone – even if Apple has given the iPhone 11 a fairly wallet-friendly price tag.
For those among us that don’t want to spend up to a thousand dollars on our handset, the iPhone SE 2 could be the answer. The original iPhone SE was a hit among those looking for a cheaper alternative to the flagships coming from the company, although nowadays it’s increasingly difficult to find the phone in stores or even online.
Enter: SE 2
Many people thought that Apple wouldn’t bother releasing an SE 2 and would instead continue to focus on top-end products while offering a mid-range alternative like the iPhone XR. This seemed to be the case with the launch of the iPhone 11 range, too, with the asking price of the iPhone 11 being $50 cheaper than the initial iPhone XR price.
It appears that Apple has other plans and is well aware that half the world can’t afford their luxury products and is making more of an effort to release some mid-range options that are budget friendly. Initial rumors suggest that the iPhone SE 2 will have a similar design to the iPhone 8, with the 4.7-inch screen and large notches, as well as the button and finger print scanner on the bottom of the device.
That being said, the similarities to the iPhone 8 will end there. The iPhone SE 2 is rumored to be packing the A13 Bionic chipset that powers the iPhone 11 range, as well as much of the other internal tweaks that keep Apple’s latest flagships running.
All of this could be attained for a similar price to the iPhone 8 – around $450. That’s a real budget option compared to the $700 iPhone 11 and the $1000+ iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max. So, if you were planning on buying an old iPhone this year, don’t. Hold out until 2020 and you’ll be able to bag yourself a top-end iPhone for less than $500. That sounds like a much better deal, doesn’t it?
iPhone SE 2 rumors
As mentioned above, we’ve heard that the iPhone SE 2 will feature a similar design to the iPhone 8, with the thin body, polished finish, and 4.7-inch screen – or thereabouts - and a price tag that will please the masses. There hasn’t been any word yet on how many cameras the phone will sport. This is an area where Apple could make a true budget masterpiece.
If the iPhone SE 2 has a dual-lens camera setup, then it will be competing with the entire mid-range Android collection with a significant advantage: Apple’s sexy design and A13 Bionic chipset, plus the allure of owning one of the world’s most luxury consumer tech products.
A13 Bionic: If you don’t know what this is, then don’t worry – it’s pretty simple. Every phone is powered by a central processing chip. Most Samsung phones choose Google’s Snapdragon processor, or their own Exynos range. Huawei uses the Kirin chipset, and Apple uses the fastest of them all. The best of the best when it comes to mobile chipsets is the A13 Bionic. The A13 is Apple’s latest and greatest chipset – the fastest ever used in a smartphone. Getting this in a mid-range phone is bloody epic – it’s not something that you ever usually see and it’ll make the iPhone SE 2 an incredible budget handset, capable of gaming and apping at blistering speeds.
What else do we know?
The iPhone SE 2 is already rumored to hold 3GB of RAM. This isn’t exactly heavy hitting, seeing as some phones now have 12GB of RAM inside them, and 6GB is increasingly becoming the baseline for a top-end smartphone. Still, 3GB of RAM is enough to complete most tasks with a relative ease and combined with a powerful chipset it will actually be more than enough to power most games and other heavy duty tasks.
We don’t know how many cameras the phone will sport yet, although having a 12MP main lens is pretty much assured. The possibility of having two cameras is very real, although this would sort of put the iPhone XR to shame, so it’s possible that Apple would hold back here in order not to risk making that model obsolete.
Aside from the design and internal workings of the rumored iPhone SE 2, there’s also a lot of speculation that it will be launched in the first quarter of 2020. Apple never reveals their products until around 10 days before they’re set to hit the shelves, but no one can stop the rumors from spreading. People talk. Simples.
There are already many rumors circulating about the iPhone SE 2, and a lot of them are coming from very reputable sources, so we can gather that this isn’t all smoke in the air. It makes perfect sense for Apple to expand further into the more affordable zone so that people around the world can get an iPhone – even if they’re from low-income countries, or just don’t want to spend $1,000 on a handset.
In a market where Apple is increasingly losing their stake to cheaper Chinese brands like Huawei and Xiaomi, as well as OnePlus and vivo, the need to have more budget handsets in their arsenal is increasingly important. It appears that the company is well aware of that and is making moves to integrate this standard of devices into the Apple collection – much to the joy of millions of people around the world. Here’s to 2020!
