Your computer has a lot of neat tools for rendering 2D and 3D graphics, and DirectX talks to them, making them work smoothly. The latest version of DirectX – DirectX 12 – has a 50% improvement over the previous version. This takes off a fair amount of pressure from your CPU when rendering graphics and transfers it to the graphics processing chip.

Basically, DirectX 12 allows you to play games without burning out your computer’s CPU.

Final note

Make sure that you’ve got the latest version of DirectX 12 installed on your computer when you’re playing games. While a graphics card will give you that extra push with regards to rendering 3D graphics, DirectX provides the foundations upon which your computer can handle gaming.
