How to Log In to Your Gmail and Use Two-Step Verification
If you’re one of those people who just doesn’t quite get tech, then this one is for you. Here’s a full guide on how to login to Gmail on PC and mobile.
Logging into Gmail can be difficult from time to time. It’s not exactly something that you generally have to do often, so it’s logical that you might completely forget how to do it. Then you add the app version of Gmail on top of this conundrum and you’ve got yourself a recipe for utter mind-blank.
Fear not, reader, we’re here to teach you how to login to you Gmail account without bursting a vein in your neck.
How to login to Gmail on browser
To log in to your Gmail account on your browser (Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge/Explorer, etc.), simply:
- Type Gmail into the search bar and go onto the first page that comes up on Google.
- Enter your email address and password.
- Press Sign In.
That’s it. Very simple. Now you’ll be taken to your main inbox where you can see you emails. Depending on how you’ve configured your Gmail settings, you can also click on the Social and Promotions tabs at the top of your inbox to see those emails too. These are usually ‘spammy’ emails that most people don’t want to see.
SET UP TWO STEP VERIFICATION
This is a little bonus for you. It’s essential that your Gmail account is ultra-secure as this is the primary account that someone can use to get hold of all your other passwords. Think about it, if you forget your password for Facebook, Amazon, or anything else, you get it emailed to you. This means you must keep your email account very secure.
The best way to do this is by activating two-step verification. This means that when you try to sign in you’ll be sent a text message or some other form of communication which you’ll have to access in order to open your account. This means that someone can’t access your account unless they have your phone.
This take us to the next phase: Make sure your phone is locked with a PIN code (and not just four 0s).
How to login to the Gmail app on mobile
Using the Gmail app on your smartphone is very convenient as it means that you can access your emails wherever you are. To get the Gmail app, simply go on to the App Store (iOS) or Play Store (Android) and search for Gmail in the search bar. Then download the app and open it.
To sign into the Gmail app:
- Open the Gmail app.
- If you’ve signed in before then you’ll see your email address and can press that. If you’ve not used the app before then press Add an email address. You can also choose to sign in with your phone number.
- Enter your password.
- If you have two-step verification set up then you’ll have to enter the code that was texted to you.
- You might have to accept Google’s privacy terms.
