OPPO Reno 2 Officially Awaiting Release – Huge Camera Upgrades
The OPPO Reno 2 has been announced just months after the hugely successful OPPO Reno and OPPO Reno 5G smartphones hit the market. Here’s what we know so far.
Chinese smartphone manufacturer OPPO is still pretty new to the scene, but they’re already pushing the limits with their upcoming OPPO Reno 2 which, interestingly enough, will have its initial release in India, followed by a worldwide release.
The fact that the smartphone is set to hit the shelves in India before it takes off anywhere else is testament to how important the Indian market is to the Chinese company. OPPO have seen a surge in sales in India, alongside other Chinese smartphone manufacturers like Xiaomi, Huawei, vivo, and OnePlus. This is due to the more affordable price tags on the phones and the more adventurous designs that they offer in order to stay relevant in the cut through Android phone market.
The OPPO Reno 2 will feature improved specs over the original OPPO Reno smartphone, plus a massive camera upgrade. This was actually one of the selling points of OPPO phones, and they’re not slowing down with the Reno 2.
OPPO Reno 2 camera setup
The company has already released three teaser videos for the Reno 2 – just a few months after the Reno hit the shelves. It appears that the company is confident and ready to push again into the market to take advantage of its growing popularity.
The Reno 2 will feature a four lens camera array with a 48MP main lens, supported by a 13MP, 8MP, and 2MP lens kit that will allow for incredible depth photo features and great low-light shooting possibilities.
In fact, the low-light shooting ability of the Reno 2 is the focus on one of the teasers. The phone will supposedly feature some clever AI software that will allow for some major enhancements to low-light photos.
The teasers also focus on the stabilization technology the phone will be sporting that will allow for better video taking. OPPO are pushing the video and photography features of the upcoming Reno 2, understanding that this is what consumers are looking for in a smartphone right now in the age of multi-lens camera setups.
The camera will also feature 20x zoom capabilities. This is an upgrade to the 10x zoom that was featured on the Reno and the Reno 5G. The 10x zoom actually allows for 5x optical zoom and 60x digital zoon, so the 20x variety will allow for a very effective zooming capabilities.
OPPO Reno 2 specs
Aside from the phone’s incredible camera kit, we’re also seeing some pretty tasty internal specs for the Reno 2. The smartphone will come equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 chipset, which is enough to handle most tasks with ease.
It will have 8GB RAM, although you will also be able to upgrade to have 12GB RAM as well for a bit more money. The phones will have 128GB or 256GB storage, respective to the amount of RAM. In short, the Reno 2 will be a very capable smartphone that will come in at a premium price range and will be able to set alongside the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and the upcoming iPhone 11 when it’s launched later this year.
Reno 2 display
The Reno 2 will be all screen – and a whole 6.5-inches of it, at that. The AMOLED display will be completely uninterrupted thanks to the pop-up ‘shark fin’ selfie camera that we previously saw in the OPPO Reno. This means that there will be no notch whatsoever and thus you can enjoy a completely fresh display – ideal for watching movies, playing games, and just basking over while using the device.
It’s a big phone, of course, so users with smaller hands may actually struggle to use it. As yet, we haven’t heard anything about a smaller version of the Reno 2, so smaller users may be forced to look elsewhere. This is an area where OPPO could potentially look to move into.
Rest assured that the phone will look very sleek – as OPPO have managed to do a great job of with previous releases so far.
Price and availability
The OPPO Reno has been a welcome addition to most smartphone markets – especially in India and China. The phones are mid-range with premium features. The OPPO Reno costs around US$570, which means that the Reno 2 will likely be somewhere around the $650 mark.
This is very affordable for a smartphone with features like the Reno and is achieved by opting for slightly dated chipsets and removing top-of-the-range features like wireless charging. It is also down to the fact that the phones are manufactured in China in a region where logistics are incredible and phone components are easy to come by. This reduces the in-between costs that ramp up the price of the competition and is a large part of the reason why Chinese phone companies are having so much success right now.
The Reno 2 will first be launched in India later this year and it’s as yet unclear where else we’ll see the phone arriving. European, the US, and Australia are likely to see the device, however.
If you’re looking for a premium feel smartphone with a top camera at an affordable price, then the Reno 2 might be perfect for you.
