Soulja Boy Made a Games Console and It’s a Hilarious Story

Looking for something funny to read this afternoon? Soulja Boy’s knock-off gaming software really fits the bill. Take a look at this bizarre turn of events.

You have to look up to the stars and thank whatever lives up there for people like Soulja Boy. The American rapper who made prominence with the song ‘Crank That’ (and the subsequent rumors that he fell off a balcony and died while doing the dance to it), is now deep in the gaming business. And it’s providing us with all manner of laughs.

The rapper’s latest release was a handheld device similar to the Sony PS Vita, as well as a console that basically just ripped off a bunch of Nintendo games and claimed that it was original. To be fair, you have to admire the guy’s attempt at business.

The consoles have since been pulled from then shelves – presumably for legal reasons, although Soulja Boy has been pretty vague on this. After claiming that “everything is 100% legit and there will be no reason for any legal ramifications or anything like that,” and that “It’s been researched,” it would appear that this was not exactly the case.

An emulated emulator

Let’s have a look at this dated-ass b!tch up close. Basically, the SouljaGame was a Nintendo emulator that was more expensive than current emulators on the market. It claimed to have 4K ultra-HD graphics, although this is questionable.

It came with 3000+ free pre-installed games, mostly knocked-off Nintendo games that it is now obvious the company didn’t have a license to use. The website for the SouljaGame console now redirects visitors to the website for the Nintendo 3DS. You can imagine them telling Soulja Boy to kiss their shoes in that meeting… actually a pretty low blow.

Then again, Nintendo have a savage reputation for suing and generally screwing over anyone who tries to copy their material without permission. In 2018, the company won a $12 million lawsuit against a ROM sharing website. Ouch.

Following the incident, Soulja Boy tweeted: “I had to boss up, I didn’t have a choice.”

Knockoffs: The Handheld Edition

What we really love about this is the realization that Soulja Boy 1) still exists, and 2) sounds so much like Donald Trump in his tweets:

“Honestly, I feel that everything is 100% legit and there will be no reason for any legal ramifications or anything like that. Honestly, I don’t have any worries at all, any concerns, because everything we’re doing is legit. It’s been researched. Everything has been basically confirmed that it’s a green light and we’re good. It’s partly the people from the outside looking in, that aren’t understanding the type of deals that were made behind the scenes that are worried.”

Now that the consoles have been pulled, it’s unclear what direction Soulja Boy will take, although we’re assuming it’ll be sideways with his arms thrown out.

Here’s to a prosperous entrepreneurial career for the guy in the Year of the Pig.
